Pure Graphite Sheets

Pure graphite sheets—also known as flexible graphite sheets—are high-performance sealing and thermal management materials made from expanded natural graphite flake. Through a process of chemical exfoliation, expansion, and compression molding, graphite flakes are bonded into flexible sheets without the use of binders or resins. This unique structure provides excellent sealing, thermal, and chemical properties, even under extreme operating conditions.

Description

Graphite sheets serve as the base material for many industrial applications, particularly in high-temperature and high-pressure environments. Derived from natural or synthetic graphite, these sheets exhibit excellent thermal conductivity, chemical resistance, and mechanical stability. When precision-cut or molded into specific shapes, they become graphite gaskets, which are integral to sealing applications across numerous industries.

Graphite gaskets are designed to prevent leaks of gases or liquids in mechanical systems. Their ability to maintain structural integrity under extreme temperatures and pressures makes them indispensable in industries such as power generation, petrochemicals, and automotive manufacturing.

Characteristics of Graphite Sheet
As a gasket material, Graphite sheet possesses a range of characteristics that distinguish it from other sealing materials:
  • High Thermal Stability
Graphite gaskets can withstand extreme temperatures, ranging from -200°C to over 4000°C in non-oxidizing environments. This makes them ideal for applications involving intense heat, such as in heat exchangers and furnaces.
  • Chemical Resistance
They are highly resistant to corrosive chemicals, including acids, alkalis, and organic solvents, ensuring durability in harsh chemical environments.
  • Flexibility and Compressibility
The material's pliability allows graphite gaskets to conform to surface irregularities, providing a tight seal even in uneven or rough flange surfaces.
  • Non-Hardening and Non-Brittle
Unlike some traditional gasket materials, graphite does not harden or become brittle over time, ensuring a long service life.
  • Low Friction Coefficient
This reduces wear and tear on mating surfaces, further enhancing the gasket's longevity.

Flexible graphite is manufactured from mineral graphite and contains carbon content between 95% and 99%. The higher the percentage of carbon the more flexibility the graphite will exhibit.

Flexible graphite sheet is made from graphite and contains no resins or inorganic fillers. It has excellent resistance to corrosion against a wide variety of acids, alkalis and salt solutions, organic compounds, and heat transfer fluids, even at high temperatures. It has superior sealability under low flange loads, an unlimited shelf life, and no sharp edges. Flexible graphite material is engineered for critical sealing applications such as internal combustion engines and fluid sealing applications, and related systems.
