Low Torque Gaskets

Low Torque Gaskets: Engineered for Non-Metallic Piping Systems

Low torque gaskets are engineered to provide reliable sealing in non-metallic and plastic piping systems where flange integrity is critical. Their unique double convex or raised sealing ring design reduces the required bolt torque by up to 75% compared to conventional flat gaskets, preventing flange deformation, cracking, and system failure.

Constructed with a PTFE sealing surface bonded to a resilient EPDM or Viton core, these gaskets offer exceptional chemical resistance across the full pH range, high elasticity under low bolt loads, and compliance with FDA, REACH, and RoHS standards. Ideal for applications in chemical processing, water treatment, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and marine industries, low torque gaskets deliver long-term leak-proof performance while simplifying installation and extending the service life of piping systems.

Description

The integrity of a piping system depends on the performance of its seals. When using non-metallic flanges—such as PVC, CPVC, PP, PVDF, and FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic)—traditional flat gaskets often present a significant challenge. The high bolt torque required to achieve a proper seal can lead to flange deformation, cracking, or system failure.

Low torque gaskets are specifically designed to address this critical issue. Manufactured by combining soft, compressible materials (such as EPDM or PTFE) with a specialized double-convex profile, these gaskets deliver effective sealing with up to 75% less bolt torque compared to conventional flat gaskets.

Core Design Features & Advantages

  1. Double Concentric Convex Sealing Rings: The gasket features a unique double concentric convex sealing ring design that reduces the sealing surface area by 75%, achieving a high-integrity seal with significantly reduced bolt load.

  2. Pure PTFE Sealing Surface: Resists a wide range of chemicals, protecting flange faces from corrosion, chemical attack, and wear. It performs reliably across the full pH range of 0 to 14, making it ideal for systems handling acids, caustics, bleaches, gases, potable water, wastewater, and steam.

  3. High-Performance Elastomer Options: Peroxide-cured EPDM offers enhanced high-temperature resistance, while Viton® (FKM) is available for applications requiring superior thermal and chemical resistance.

  4. Sanitary & Regulatory Compliance: FDA or WRAS-approved EPDM materials are available, making these gaskets suitable for food processing, potable water, and pharmaceutical industries.

  5. Ease of Installation: Equipped with a molded ring tab for convenient storage and accurate positioning during installation, simplifying assembly and reducing maintenance downtime.

  6. Extended System Life: The design reduces fluid turbulence and pressure drop, contributing to longer system life and ensuring the long-term structural integrity of the piping network.

Applications

  • Chemical processing and transfer systems

  • Water and wastewater treatment plants

  • Corrosive or high-purity fluid handling

  • Highly regulated industries, including food & beverage, pharmaceutical, and water treatment

  • Marine and shipbuilding: lightweight, corrosion-resistant piping networks

  • Power and utility systems: corrosion-resistant sealing for industrial utility applications

Ideal for thermoplastic piping systems, as well as metal or plastic-lined metal pipe systems.
