Rubber extruded profiles are continuous rubber components produced by pushing (or drawing) an uncured rubber compound through a shaped die so that the resulting product has a constant cross-section (the “profile”).
Profiles (Shapes & Cross-Sections)
- They can come in simple shapes, such as U-channels, T-profiles, P-profiles, L-profiles, D-profiles, and E-strips, among others.
- They can also be more complex, custom cross-sections designed to fit a specific function, e.g., glazing seals, door seals, special trim.
- We can also produce rubber, fabric, and metal-composite extruded products by using the multi-head composite extrusion method.
Post-processing may include cutting, splicing (for closed loops), joining corners, punching holes, and assembling with other parts.
MaterialsRubber extruded profiles can be made from a wide variety of elastomeric materials, depending on the application, including:
- NR (Natural Rubber)
- SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber)
- NBR (Nitrile Rubber)
- EPDM (Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer)
- CR (Chloroprene)
- Silicone Rubber
- FKM / Fluoroelastomers
- Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE) or TPV (Thermoplastic Vulcanizates) in some cases.
- Almost all materials can be formed into a foamed sponge.
Application Examples
- Window/door seals: U or P profiles in EPDM used to seal metal/glass frames, resist weather, and UV.
- Automotive trim/sealing: Custom profile shapes to fit door edges, hatches, cabins, in materials resistant to oil/heat.
- Industrial equipment seals: Profiles that seal equipment enclosures, vibration isolation strips, and edge guards on cabinets.
- Building construction: Rubber extrusions for facades, glazing channels, and expansion joints.
- Transportation/shipping: Profiles for protective edging, shock absorption, cushion strips on metal frames.
Joining/splicing can be a weak point—loops or closed shapes may require a vulcanised joint rather than a simple adhesive splice.
Extrusion is usually economical for continuous lengths and moderate volumes, but for very small volumes or very complex shapes might cost more.
