Description

Rubber Metal Bonded Seals are composite seals that minimize mechanical vibration, make installation easier, lower assembly costs, and reduce noise1. They are made by bonding rubber to metal to create a composite seal1. Merdian manufactures rubber to metal bonded seals from most rubber elastomers, and using a wide variety of substrates, including brass, aluminum alloy, stainless steel, carbon steel, even include plastic and PTFE.

About the bonding method
Rubber and metal bonding is a process by which rubber is mechanically bonded to a metal insert during the molding process. The bonding of rubber to metal can be done using various methods such as hot vulcanize/bonded adhesive method,  cold adhesive method, brass plating method and etc.
Meridian recommend uses precise co-molding processes to hot vulcanize/bonded an elastomeric seal profile directly into a non-elastomeric carrier. This process yields a chemical bond far superior to one that uses a cured profile bonded to a substrate with an adhesive.
